John William Wiechmann was born on December 13, 1913, in Otoe County, Nebraska. He was the son of Fred Wiechmann and Anna Delekat Wiechmann. He was the husband of Dorothy Adeline Gustason. He studied for two years at the College of Agriculture, University of Nebraska. Before entering the service, he assisted his father on the farm. He entered the service on December 23, 1940.

John served in the 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division, as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 2, 1944, during the liberation of Domjean in France. SSgt Wiechmann is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and was awarded the Purple Heart.
