William Grady Reid was born on August 17, 1923, in Warrior, Jefferson County, Alabama. He was the son of Richard Leonard Reid and Ethel Lezora Mitchell Reid. He was the husband of Lovell Peters Thomas.
Reid was a former employee of T.C.I. tin plate mill in Fairfield before entering the service. He served in the United States Naval Reserve as a Seaman First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 2, 1944, during the liberation of Dol-de-Bretagne. He was buried at Reid's Gap Cemetery, Smoke Rise, Blount County, Alabama, USA.
