Walbert Thomas Shoemaker was born on December 26, 1922, in Etowah, McMinn County, Tennessee. He was the son of J. Ross Shoemaker and Della Burris Shoemaker.
He served in the Service and Supply Company, 3rd Service Battalion, 3rd Marine Division as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 22, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
