Ernest William Lacross was born on July 4, 1921, in Attleboro, Bristol County, Massachusetts. He was the son of Arthur Lewis LaCroix and Mary Jane Daly LaCroix. He was married to Anna O. Bellavance Lacross.

He was assigned to the 710th Bomber Squadron, 447th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a right waist gunner of B-17 42-31431 (aka Solid Sender) during World War II. Shot down by flak and crashed while enroute to the target in Regensburg on February 25, 1944. He was taken as a POW in Barth, Germany. He had worked as a machinist at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft for 33 years, retiring in 1983.
