James Edwin Magruder was born on August 1, 1922, in Washington, District of Columbia, District of Columbia. He was married to Marie Ann Hattie Seefeldt Magruder.
He was assigned to the 710th Bomber Squadron, 447th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a ball turret gunner of B-17 42-31431 (aka Solid Sender) during World War II. Shot down by flak and crashed while enroute to the target in Regensburg on February 25, 1944. He was taken as a POW in Barth, Germany.He was given an honorable discharge on October 23, 1945.
