Campbell “Poncho” Palfrey Jr. was born on June 19, 1918, in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. He was the son of Campbell Palfrey. He was married to Sidney Palfrey.
Campbell Palfrey graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1942. Assigned to 710th Bomber Squadron, 447th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a co-pilo of B-17 42-31431 (aka Solid Sender) during World War II. Shot down by flak and crashed while enroute to the target in Regensburg on February 25, 1944. He was taken as a Prisoner of War in Barth, Germany. Returned to USA by about July, 1945.He retired as a U.S. Air Force Colonel.
