Born on November 10, 1865 in Kingston, Georgia. Major General, The Adjutant General of the United States. Harris entered the U.S. military as a Captain of the 9th Infantry in March 1899. He was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel of Infantry in July 1916, and Colonel of Infantry in May 1917. He became a Brigadier-General of the National Army in December 1917, and Major General, the Adjutant General in September 1918. He served in that capacity until 1922, winning the Distinguished Service Medal in February 1919 for exceptional service. His son, Charles Harris was KIA in WW1.
