Kenneth Boyd Tanner, Jr. was born on July 27, 1917, in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. He was the son of Kenneth Boyd Tanner and Bertha Marie Alter Tanner.

Kenneth Boyd, Jr. served in the #23 Operational Training Unit of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on September 16, 1942, when his Wellington III Z1730, which took off at 20h22 from Pershore, failed to return from an operational flight over enemy territory. It crashed at Baerl near Repelen Lohmansheide near Krefeld, where the crew were buried in the Hauptfriedhf.
