Harry Sponsler was the son of Clarence and Emmaline Sponsler, of White Hall, Illinois. He served in the #149 East India Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Warrant Officer Second Class during World War II. He was declared Missing in Action on May 30, 1943, when his Stirling aircraft # BF 507, which took off at 23h02 from RAF Lakenheath, was shot down by a night-fighter and crashed at Dormagen on the W bank of the Rhine midway between Neuss and Cologne. WO2 Sponsler's body was never found.
