Glen Frank Smith was born on October 14, 1913, in Grayson County, Texas. He was the son of Frank R. Smith (deceased when Glen enlisted) and Ora (nee Nash) Smith, of Sherman, Texas.

Glen served in the #20 Operational Training Unit as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. He was declared Missing in Action on October 8, 1943, when his Wellington aircraft # X 3662 crashed in the sea during a 700-mile cross-country exercise from base to Penrhos - Carlisle - McDuff and return to base.
