Frank Lee Shelnutt was born on November 5, 1921, in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama. He was the son of Lucious and Novelle Shelnutt.
Frank served in the 428 Ghost Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Warrant Officer Second Class during World War II. He was declared Missing in Action on May 30, 1943, when his Wellington aircraft #HE 319, which took off at 22h32 from RAF Dalton, failed to return from night operations. His body was never found.
