Greaton Wesley Sellers, of Oakland, California, was born on March 20, 1920, in Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina. He was the son of Greaton Wesley Sellers Sr. and Katherine Gordon Saunders.

Greaton served in the 149 (R.A.F.) Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flying Officer during World War II. He was Killed in Action on March 12, 1943, when his Stirling I EF330, which took off at 19h38 from RAF Lakenheath, was shot down by a night fighter (Hptm Wilhelm Dormann 11/NJG1) and crashed at 22h03 at Beek, The Netherlands (Gelderland 20 km ESE of Arnhem.)
