Gerald Thomas Reyburn was born on December 16, 1921, in Saint Louis, St. Louis City, Missouri. He was the son of Harry L. Reyburn and Grace K. Koppman Reyburn.

Gerald was educated at St. Anns Primary School between 1927 and 1935, attended Beaumont High School between 1935 and 1937, and Dupont Manual Training High School between 1937 and 1940. He took a course in fine art at the Washington University between 1939 and 1940. He was employed at C.T. Dearing Printing Co. in Louisville, Kentucky, from November 1940 till February 1941 where he worked as a layout artist. He then worked as a Traffic clerk at DuPont Powder Construction in Charlestown, Indiana, between February and April 1941 and became an acid mixer at the DuPont Powder Plant between April and August 1941. Gerald served in the 142 (R.A.F.) Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on October 25, 1942, when his Wellington aircraft went down in the North Sea west of Delft, Holland, presumed enemy action.
