James Lee Powell, of Orange, New Jersey, was born in 1924. He was the son of Lee William and Annie May Powell, of Grimsby, Ontario, Canada.
James served in the #1664 Heavy Conversion Unit of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on October 17, 1944, when his crew, aboard the Halifax aircraft #LL 240, was engaged in a cross-country training flight and crashed four miles northwest of RCAF Station, Dishforth, Yorkshire.
