Clifford Sinclair Newton was born on April 14, 1922, in Michigan. He was the son of Archibald Place Newton and Lucinda Jane Smith Newton.

Clifford served in the 9 (RAF) Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flying Officer during World War II. He was killed with five other crew members on January 1, 1945, when their Lancaster bomber NG252 crashed into the ground due to loss of power after take-off from Bardney.
