Edward Warren Murphy was born on May 23, 1916, in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. He was the son of John Thomas Murphy and Mary E. (nee Geagan) Murphy, of Somerville, Massachusetts.
Edward was a graduate of North Eastern University and of Bentley Accounting School. Before the US entered the war, Edward went to Canada, where he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He became a pilot of a Halifax bomber with 405 Squadron.
He was Killed in Action on October 2, 1942, when his Halifax II DG228 was shot down by flak and crashed into a house at Noordwijkerout, Holland (The Netherlands), while returning from a raid against Krefeld, Germany.
