Edward Francis Monroe of South Portland, Maine, served in the #419 Moose Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 29, 1942, when his Wellington III aircraft X 3488 went missing during operations against Hamburg, Germany. The last message received indicated that they were west of the Frisian Islands, Holland (The Netherlands), were under attack by enemy fighter aircraft, and some of the crew had been wounded. P/O N.G. Arthur, H.J. Dell, FS(s) H. Bryden, E.F. Monroe, and P/O W.G. Campbell D.F.C. (RAF) were killed.
