Jones Monroe Matherly was born on February 15, 1916, in Sarasota County, Florida. He was the son of Jones Monroe Matherly and Mary Jane Matherly.
Jones served in the #427 Lion Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flying Officer during World War II. He was Killed in Action on February 1, 1944, when his crew, aboard Halifax aircraft #LV 828, were on a cross-country exercise and crashed one mile from RAF Station Grafton in Underwood, England. All members bailed out to safety except for F/O Matherly.
