William Risdon Malkemus was born on August 29, 1921, in Columbia, Lexington County, South Carolina. He was the son of David S. and Catherine Carr Malkemus, of Knoxville, Tennessee.
William servd in the 149 (R.A.F.) Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on sp 7, 1941, when his plane, Wellington X9705, crashed near Lünten, Vreden, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany during an operation to Berlin. The aircraft was intercepted and shot down by a night fighter pilot.
