Roger Singleton Knapp was born on April 1, 1918, in Galveston, Galveston County, Texas. He was the son of Thomas Archer Knapp and Helen Emily Fugman Colley.

Roger served in the #83 Operational Training Unit of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flying Officer during World War II. A crew member on the Wellington aircraft #BK 463, which took off at RAF Peplow, England, Roger was killed in action on May 20, 1944, when his aircraft went missing while dropping leaflets (nickel raid) over Lille, France. Their airplane crashed at Eps - 13 km NNO of St-Pol-sur-Ternoise.
