Donald Kyle R. "Don" Kibbe was born on November 14, 1917, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He was the son of Kyle Albert Kibbe and Elizabeth Marie Curran Kibbe.
Donald served in the 102 RAF Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Sergeant during World War II.
On September 30, 1941, Don was the second pilot on 102 Squadron's Armstrong Whitworth Whitley V (#Z6871) aircraft, with an aircrew of six, which had taken off from RAF Topcliffe in Yorkshire on a night mission over Stettin in Germany. On the return flight, following the air operation, Z6871 flew into high terrain and crashed, taking the life of Flight Sergeant Kibbe, the only airman to perish in this accident.
He is now buried in the Topcliffe Cemetery, England, and has a cenotaph in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Massachusetts.
