Leonard Hunter Hogg was born on January 22, 1923, in North Vancouver, British Columbia. He was the son of Leo Sebastian and Jessie Thomson (nee Gray) Hogg, of Vancouver, British Columbia. Brother of Lawrence Henry Hogg of San Francisco, California, United States.

Leonard served in the 425 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Pilot Officer during World War II. He was killed on October 14, 1944, when his Halifax BIII aircraft MZ 674 KW-N "Nobody's Baby" was shot down at Bracht, near Lobberich, southwest of the target Duisburg, Germany, during daylight Operation Hurricane in conjunction with the 8th USAAF.
