Denzil Clair Hawk was born on March 1, 1917, in Windsor, Randolph County, Indiana. He was the son of Mahlon Ervin Hawk and Leota Marie Gaddis Hawk.
Denzil served in the #30 Operational Training Unit of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Sergeant during World War II. He was killed on October 31, 1941, when his Wellington Ic Z1083 aircraft failed to land on the first attempt, then stalled and crashed on the go around near Hixon aerodrome.
