Samuel Hanan was born on April 29, 1922, in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California. He was the son of Nahman Moreno Hanan and Marie Calo Chebi Barlia.
Samuel served in the 429 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Warrant Officer Class II during World War II. He was killed when his plane, Wellington HE382, crashed during a raid on Duisburg, Germany, shot down by a night fighter.
