James Caldwell Hadley was born on May 5, 1916, in Ramsey, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of William and Ann Hadley; husband of Genevieve R. Hadley, of Essex, Ontario, Canada.
James served in the #22 Operational Training Unit of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. He was declared Missing in Action on June 25, 1942, when his Wellington aircraft #X 9980, armed with 1 x 500lb. general purpose bomb and 48 x 30 lb. incendiary bombs, went missing over enemy territory.
