George Albert Firman was born on July 15, 1917, in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, New York. He was the son of Albert C. and Susan E. Firman; husband of Lillian D. Firman, of Barrie, Ontario. He lived in Barrie most of his life.

George served in the 44 Squadron (Rhodesia) of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. He also has a cenotaph in the Barrie Union Cemetery, in Ontario, Canada. A crew member on the Lancaster I R5603, he was declared missing on August 5, 1942, when their aircraft was lost without a trace from RAF Waddington, England. His body was never found.
