John Granville Donoghue was born on April 30, 1912, in Woodlawn, Bronx County, New York. He was the husband of Cecelia Donoghue, of Glen Head, New York State.

John served in the 97 (R.A.F.) Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on April 17, 1942, when his Lancaster aircraft #R 5513 was lost during operations over enemy territory. The aircraft was reported to have been hit by flak, exploding over the Augsburg target area.
