Linwood Alton Dingley was born on May 25, 1909, in Portland, Cumberland County, Maine. He was the husband of Paula Stone.

Linwood served in the #428 Ghost Squadron (Usque Ad Finern) of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flying Officer during World War II. On May 12, 1943, his crew flying the Wellington aircraft # HE 656, took off at 23h45 from RAF Dalton, England, on a mission to Duisburg, Germany. Due to an unknown reason, their aircraft crashed at sea off Criel-sur-mer, France.
