Edward John Deemer was born on October 26, 1920, in Windsor, Essex County, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of Edward John Deemer, and Annie Winifred (nee Tompkins) of Cleveland, Ohio.
Edward served in the 115 (R.A.F.) Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flying Officer during World War II. He was a crew member on Lancaster II LL694, which, on March 25, 1944, was shot down by a Luftwaffe night-fighter ace.
