Comments:

Martin David Davis was born on May 4, 1921, in Fremont County, Idaho. He was the son of Martin David Davis and Cora Cumi (née Cheney) Davis.

A student residing in the Empress Hotel in Calgary, Alberta, Martin enlisted in the RCAF on Nov 4, 1941 in Calgary. He served in the 101 RAF Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II.

On May 5, 1943, his Avro Lancaster I (#W4863) bomber aircraft, with an aircrew of seven, took off from Holme-on-Spalding Moor on an air operation over Dortmund, Germany. Following the operation, W4863 ran into foggy conditions on its return flight back to base, was diverted to another airfield, but crashed on its attempted landing at Scorfield Airfield, taking the lives of four crew members, including Davis, and injuring three others.
