Hugh Augustine Davey was born on September 8, 1923, in County Down, Northern Ireland. He was the son of Joseph and Margaret Davey, of Andover, Massachusetts.

Hugh served in the 434 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Pilot Officer during World War II. He was Killed in Action on February 21, 1945, when his Lancaster aircraft #NG 497 returned from the target but had been badly damaged by cannon shells when it was shot down by a German fighter aircraft.
