Louie Elmo Corley was born on October 7, 1922, in Quitman, Wood County, Texas. He was the son of Leonard Porter Corley and Nona Esther Gilbreath Corley.

Louie served in the #156 Squadron (We Light The Way), Pathfinder Force, of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Sergeant during World War II. A crew member on the Lancaster aircraft #Z 4930, his crew took off at 9:53 OM on April 15, 1943, from RAF Warboys, England, on a mission to Pilzen (Czech Republic). Shot down a night fighter NJG4 from St. Dizier, France, at around 05:00H, their plane hit a power line and crashed between Aigny and Vraux. All crew members were killed in this crash.
