Alfred Valentine Cash was born on May 16, 1913, in Felling, England. He was the son of Charlesina Green Throm of New Haven, Connecticut.
Alfred served in the 424 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flying Officer during World War II. On March 5, 1945, aboard Avro Lancaster BI (#NG458) aircraft, with an aircrew of seven, his crew took off from RAF Skipton-on-Swale for an air operation over Chemnitz, Germany. His airplane was shot and crashed resulting in the deaths of almost all crew members, including Flying Officer Cash. Only one member survived.
