Arthur S. Martinez was born on February 28, 1920, in Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona. He was the son of Juan Martinez and Guadalupe Gonzalez Martinez.

Arthur served in the 566th Bomber Squadron, 389th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant and Engineer on the B-24M-10-FO Liberator #44-50747 during World War II.

Departing from RAF Hethel/AAF Station 114 in Norfolk, England, he was Killed in Action on April 5, 1945 aboard B-24 #44-50747. That day, the 389th BG was on a mission to hit the marshaling yards at Plauen, Germany. His plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire from a German ship off the coast of Holland (The Netherlands). It caused a fuel leak and the pilot radioed he would attempt a landing. The plane crashed between Brouwershaven and Zonnemaire, The Netherlands. All nine on board were killed.
