Russell Bradfield Ashley was born on November 22, 1913, in La Porte City, Black Hawk County, Iowa. He was the son of Roy Edgar Ashley and Mayme Katherine Bradfield Ashley.
Russell served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II as an aircraft Pilot. He was killed when his Mosquito HR 572 crashed in the sea at Cochin Harbor. He had survived a previous crash when he served with #621 Squadron. His final resting place is unknown. He is listed in the Singapore Memorial, Kranji, Singapore, and is also remembered on a family marker at Westview Cemetery in La Porte City, Iowa.
