Maurice Andrew Phair was born on 24 December 1918 in Limestone, Aroostook County, Maine. He was the son of Mark Trafton Phair and Bertha R. Foote Phair.

Maurice served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He was stationed at Syerston, England with the RAF Squadron 106. He participated in a daylight raid by a large force of Lancaster bombers on Milan on 24 October 1942. He apparently would be transferred soon to the U.S. Army Air Forces.

He participated in sixteen bomber operations from 9 September 1942 to 13 January 1943, on which they failed to return from a mission to Essen. Their plane was shot down through enemy action.

Maurice A Phair was initially buried at the Military Cemetery at Dusseldorf, Grave 201, Section 11/A, and was reinterred in the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery at Kleve, Germany, together with the rest of his crew:
