Norman George Miller was born on April 24, 1921, in Shinnston, Harrison County, West Virginia. He was the son of William F. Miller and Bertha Ellen Kerns Miller.
Norman had a grammar school education, had a civil occupation as a semiskilled miner and mining machine operator, and was single without dependents upon enlistment. He entered military service at Fort Hayes Columbus, Ohio, on August 21, 1940. Norman served in Company D, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was Missing in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 23, at Pointe du Hoc, during the American assault on Omaha and Utah beaches in France. SSgt Miller is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing, Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
