Andrew Pruitt McCorkle was born on August 22, 1919, in Marion County, Georgia. He was the son of William Andrew McCorkle and Ellie Eva Melton McCorkle.

Andrew Pruitt entered military service at Fort Benning, Georgia, on August 9, 1940. At the time of his death, he was serving in Company D, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 8, 1944, at the age of 24, at Grandcamp, during the American assault on Omaha beach in France. PFC McCorkle is now buried in the New Providence Baptist Cemetery, Buena Vista, Marion County, Georgia, USA.
