William Whitson Lynch, Jr. was born on June 20, 1924, in Franklin, Williamson County, Tennessee. He was the son of William Whitson Lynch and Nancy Ferguson Lynch.

William had one year of college, was single without dependents, and was employed by Percy Jenette, Franklin, Tennessee, prior to his enlistment. He entered military service at Camp Forrest, Tennessee, on February 27, 1943. William served in Company C, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Technician 5th Grade during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 19, at Pointe de la Percée, during the American assault on Omaha beach in France. T5 Lynch is now buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Franklin, Williamson County, Tennessee, USA.
