Clarence J. Long was born on September 2, 1924, in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Napoleon C. Long and Anna Martin Long.

Clarence had three years of high school and was single without dependents upon enlistment. He entered military service in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on November 27, 1942. Clarence served in Company D, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Technician 5th Grade during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 19, at Pointe du Hoc, during the American assault on Omaha and Utah beaches in France. T5 Long is now buried in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA.
