Sammie Adkins was born on July 30, 1921, in Oklahoma. He was the son of Oscar Millard Adkins and Mary Elizabeth Smith Adkins.

Sammie served in Company C, 2nd Ranger Battalion, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, at the age of 22, at Pointe de la Percée, during the American assault on Omaha beach in France. He is now buried in the Lost City Cemetery, Lost City, Cherokee County, Oklahoma, USA.
