Verl Duane Fisher was born on September 20, 1919, in Clarksburg, Shelby County, Illinois. He was the son of Forest C. Fisher and Maude M. Patterson Fisher. He was the husband of Frances Louise Burgener Fisher.
Verl attended Eastern Illinois University and graduated from the Bradley School of Horology in Peoria, Illinois, before beginning a long career as a jeweler. For many years he owned and operated Fisher's Jewelry in Assumption, Illinois. He was also the owner of an insurance and real estate agency in Assumption.
He served in the 366th Bomber Squadron, 305th Bomb Group, Heavy, as a Flight Officer and Pilot on the B-17 #42-3195 during World War II. He survived an air crash on October 14, 1943, when his airplane was shot down by a German fighter plane Ofw. Heckmann 1./JG1 and crashed at Waldenrath, Germany. He was taken as a POW.
Verl died on August 30, 2010, at the age of 90, and is now buried in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Assumption, Christian County, Illinois, USA.
