Francis John Guay was born on February 7, 1923, in Watertown, Jefferson County, New York. He was the son of Joseph P. and Frances Elmira Guay of Pembroke, Ontario, Canada. He served in the 434 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a crew member on the Halifax V EB218 during World War II. His crew took off at 17h29 on October 22, 1943, from Tholthorpe, England, but, unfortunately, they were lost without a trace.
