Cyril Randolph Trask, whose parents were born in the USA, was born on September 4, 1922, in Turtleford, Lloydminster Census Division, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was the son of James Lambert Trask and Alice May Schatz Trask. They moved to Meadow Lake in 1925, where Jim, his father, was employed by the Federal Forestry Service as chief of fire rangers. Cyril was educated at Meadow Lake and Saskatoon Tech before enlisting early in 1941.

At the time of his death, Cyril was serving in the 426 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Pilot Officer. On March 5, 1943, his aircraft, Vickers Wellington III (#BK401), with an aircrew of five, took off at night from RAF Dishforth for an air operation over Essen, Germany. BK401 was lost without a trace, taking the lives of the entire crew; the crash site is unknown.
