Ethan Allen was born on 4 June 1919 in Biarritz, France. His father was president of a cellophane plastic company which may explain his many moves. He was educated at Mr. Gibbs School (London, England), Pembroke House (Kenya), La Chataignerair (Switzerland), France, and the United States (St.George's School in Newport, Rhone Island, and the University of California). Although his home is recorded as being New York City, he had merely traveled there to join the RCAF; his previous occupation had been in California (selling rare books). He enlisted in Montreal on 4 December 1941. At the time of his death, he was serving in the 224 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was declared Killed in Action on 7 June 1944, when his Liberator #BZ 941 failed to return from a night anti-sub patrol.
