Carl E. Tranchina was born on July 26, 1921. At the time of his death, he was serving in the 670th Bomber Squadron, 416th Bomb Group. On February 8, 1945, at 09h47, Sgt Tranchina and 1Lt Steed (pilot) took off from A-55 Melun/Villaroche, France, on a bombing mission to Nutterden, Germany. On the return, their aircraft ran out of gas and crashed in a forest in Montgeron, France. 1Lt Steed was killed in the crash, while Sgt Tranchina survived.
