John William "Jack" Daley was born on May 22, 1918, in Mineral Ridge, Trumbull County, Ohio. He resided in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, prior to the war.

John enlisted in the Army on April 13, 1943, in Akron, Ohio. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a crane man and also as Separated, without dependents. At the time of his death, he was serving the 9th Armored Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division, as a Private First Class. He was one of the 75 soldiers killed during the liberation of Plabennec and Plouvien, France. PFC Daley is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery, Montjoie Saint Martin, France.
