Alden Hereford Hammer was born on September 2, 1922, in Tompkinsville, Monroe County, Kentucky. He was the son of Aubra Hammer and Alice L. Coulter Hammer.
Alden served in the 44th Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was one of the 75 soldiers killed during the liberation of Plabennec and Plouvien, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery, Montjoie Saint Martin, France.
