Almond Chandler was born on April 26, 1916, in Banks County, Georgia. He was the son of Alger Non Neal Chandler and Bertha Mae Snipes Chandler.
Almond served in the 44th Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was one of the 75 soldiers killed during the liberation of Plabennec and Plouvien, France. PFC Chandler is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery, Montjoie Saint Martin, France. He has a cenotaph located in the Chandler Cemetery, Five Points, Banks County, Georgia.
