William served as a Private 1st Class in the 44th Armored Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division, United States Army during World War II. He was one of the 75 soldiers killed during the liberation of Plabennec and Plouvien, France. He is now buried in the Gettysburg National Cemetery, Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania, USA.
